Decent, if rather
nondescript, covert featuring Alpha and Sternhammer this week.
The Nerve Center
seems to be using the soapbox to respond to the criticisms of the recent trawl
through the archives - i.e. the current re-hashing of old classics. In the reviews
on this site, I have written how this has proved to be a mixed bag. However the
assertion in the Nerve Centre that this is not "a marketing gimmick"
rings a little untrue. Regardless of the quality of the stories - of course it's
a marketing gimmick - they are in the job of selling comics after all...
This issue
also proclaims the return of Slaine by Mills and Langley in a future issue. Oh
dear... |

|
| Review:
A nice round off to this 2 parter, as Marg Rutherford block sinks into anarchy
after seceding from Mega City One. Rennie clearly knows how to write this kind
of story well, especially with Dredd's Character. His attitude of letting the
citizens beg for repatriation before going in is a great touch. Perhaps he could
bring some of this humour into Rogue Trooper? Once again the Gibson Art is fantastic
- although I must admit it'd be nice to see some more panted artwork from him
in the future.

6- ...You're Dead

| Review:
Keege explains why he refused to fire on an enemy ship last prog, and leads to
the discovery of a Geek Hive. Nice little plot development, helped by some amazing
artwork from Flint & Blythe. All very reminiscent of Cam Kennedy's Star Wars
work, which is high praise indeed. Not much else to say about this except it's
great.

| Review:
A little more focused on "Jack Bison" this issue, as s/he goes nuts
while looking for drugs. And the real Jack finally has a confrontation with Esposito.
Good Artwork, still let down by a somewhat pedestrian and inevitable storyline.

| Roadhouse
- Part 6
|
| Review:
Strontium Dog keeps going from strength to strength as the group moves into another,
less inviting, part of the roadhouse. Bit of an action episode this one, as the
group are attacked by flying creatures, and another one of them is knocked off.
Some good humour using Sternhammer this time, and as ever, sterling work from
Ezquerra.

Bit of an interlude here, as we meet Souther Colonel Logan, and Doctor Kinsella,
who has some interesting news about Rogue's genetic condition. Much, much better
than the dull previous issues, this at least hints that the storyline is going
somewhere. Good artwork by Dylan Teague rounds off a decent episode - but I can't
help feeling this has been done better before...

Best Story:
Strontium Dog.
