DC to publish 2000AD material in the US

The story broke over at Newsarama earlier this week, with a DC press release announcing that they had completed a deal to acquire 2000AD reprints in the states. 2000AD has had previous links with the big American publisher before, with multiple Batman/Judge Dredd crossovers and an abortive (although not as bad as some would have you believe) attempt at producing original Dredd comics some years back.

No original material has been announced, although this deal clearly opens up the possibilities for another Dredd/Batman (with Jock being mooted as a possibility b the rumour mongers, given his recent Batman cover and his work on Batman Begins) and Andy Diggle mentioning a possible Dredd/Superman pitch. It's also been suggested that this may also open the door for those creators tied to exclusivity deals with DC to produce work for 2000AD as well (although this is far from clear as yet).

Jamie Boardman, 2000AD graphic novels Editor ha been touring the forums across the world, and has given more information on what to expect from the deal:

The full September ship list stands as: The Batman/Judge Dredd Files, written by John Wagner and Alan Grant, with art by Simon Bisley, Carl Critchlow, Dermot Power, Glenn Fabry, Jim Murray, and Jason Brashill; and Sinister Dexter: Gunshark Vacation, written by Dan Abnett, with art by David Millgate, Anthony Williams, Charles Gillespie, Simon Davis, and Henry Flint.

Books currently on the radar for future release include:

Devlin Waugh: Swimming in Blood, written by John Smith, with art by Sean Phillips, Siku, and Michael Gaydos; Red Razors, written by Mark Millar, with art by Steve Yeowell and Nigel Dobbyn; Judge Dredd: Judgment Day, written by Garth Ennis, with art by Peter Doherty, Dean Ormston, Carlos Ezquerra, and Chris Halls; Nikolai Dante: The Romanov Dynasty, written by Robbie Morrison, with art by Simon Fraser, Chris Weston, Charlie Adlard, and Henry Flint; Robo-Hunter: Verdus, written by John Wagner, with art by Ian Gibson; and Shimura, written by Robbie Morrison, with art by Frank Quitely, Colin MacNeil, Robert McCallum and Fraser.

It's worth noting that DC have clearly seen the potential in releasing work by now "hot" artists, with work by Mark Millar, Sean Phillips and Frank Quitely among others clearly being of interest to the American market.

More Dredd movie news appears

Just as things were beginning to get a bit quiet on the Dredd movie news front, along comes Comic Book Resources with some rather surprising news. It seems like the Shoreline deal has fallen through and those scripts developed, Dredd Reckoning and Possession (whose synopses were somewhat foolishly posted for the world to see, and rip apart), are going to be abandoned. "I Am The Law Productions and Framework" are now responsible for pushing the picture forward, with one movie instead of two.

It's still far too early to find out exactly what this means, but hopefully there will be more news, including the identity of the writer before too long.

New Bolland Dredd artwork

Worth checking out is the cover for True Brit from TwoMorrows publishing. Featuring a brand new Dredd pic rom Bolland (as well as a guest appearance from Frazer Irving), the book features interviews and art from some of the UK's finest comic creators.
