New Dredd Movie Synopses

The official site for Shoreline Entertainment has updated its Dredd pages with detailed plots of the upcoming films. And yes - it sounds like there are some key differences between the movies and the comics (notably, the introduction of Dredd's mentor "Judge Callahan"). Perhaps more worrying, as far as the first film, Dredd Reckoning goes, is the need to strip Dredd of his "Judge" status - a plot that was covered to some extent in the first film, as was the corruption in the judicial system.

Possession, however, sounds a little more interesting and innovative, mainly because of the presence of Judge Death and the Dark Judges. The inclusion of Psi Judges should, if written well, offer something above and beyond the run-of-the-mill sci-fi film (even if the "unwitting sidekick" idea screams "cliché" a little too loudly).

One warning - if these scripts stay as they are, spoilers abound throughout the synopses (something of an oddity - don't the film-makers realise that the less we know, the more we, and sites like Ain't it Cool, want to find out?). So bear that in mind before you take a look.

In other related news, Comic Book Resources says that the search for a director is nearly over, with casting to begin soon after that.

One way or another - it can't be worse than the Stallone movie story-wise, but don't expect it to look quite as good given the drastically reduced budget...

More Dredd vs Death screenshots appear

As E3, the games world's biggest trade show, is round the corner all the software houses have been getting ready to show off their wares. And Rebellion is no different, with more glimpses of Dredd vs Death appearing on the Net.

With more shots of the judges appearing this time around, and crucially the promise of 4 person split screen play, the game does indeed look like it's starting to shape up nicely. Not much further news on game specs yet, but expect to hear a load more about this in the coming weeks.

We should also hear more about 2 more "unannounced" games about the same time (with notable spaces left for them on the Rebellion website), but time will tell whether they are 2000AD related or not.

One last comment - isn't it about time that Rebellion updated their rather poor official Dredd Vs Death site with some decent shots and news about the game?

New Trades coming Soon

In case you missed it, this months Megazine mentions a few of the trade paperback collections we can expect to see in the near future. Surprisingly, there are a few hardback re-issues, including Hewligan's Haircut, but it's nice to see Necronauts priced at a fairly reasonable £7.99. Of perhaps more interest in the future are the inevitable Dredd/Aliens collection, Durham Red - the Vermin Stars, Banzai Battalion, the ABC Warriors and Devlin Waugh.

Personally, I'd like to see a few more "big" collections, especially more colour Dredd reprints of 160 pages plus, bringing together some of the best one-off strips. There's a hell of a lot of good material out there, and perhaps we could get some decent sized collections of these?
