Prog 2003 Preview
Rich Johnston over
at Comic
Book Resources has secured something of an exclusive, with some artwork
of the upcoming Dredd/Aliens epic, and some shots of the new Slaine
series. Dredd/Aliens seems to be getting 2000AD increased publicity on
the American websites, and the artwork on display here certainly isn't going to
put anyone off. Expect Henry Flint's career to skyrocket after this...

DC
Comics 03/04
There's been what
can only be described as a whole shitload of new projects just announced by DC
Comics at a retailer's convention, with a large number of 2000AD alumni involved.
Of particular interest is the ongoing Authority series by Robbie Morrison
of Nikolai Dante fame. He's clearly impressed with his recent one-shot
to get this job, which hopefully won't lead to less of his work appearing in 2000AD.
There's also murmurings of a new Ennis/Dillon creator owned series, but no further
details were given.
The rest of the
list is a truly eclectic bunch, with DC clearly aiming to fight back against Marvel's
recent dominance in the market. While a fair amount are superhero based, there's
a decent mix of genres on display, and 2003 promises to be a good year for DC.
The 2000AD related offerings
are:
- The Losers - Andy
Diggle & Jock
- The Many Worlds of Tesla
Strong - Peter Hogan & various
- The Originals -
Dave Gibbons
- Terra Obscura -
Peter Hogan, Alan Moore, Yanick Paquette, & Karl Story
- The Authority
- Robbie Morrison, Dwayne Turner
- League Of Extraordinary
Gentlemen Series 3 - Alan Moore & Kevin O'Neill
- Vertigo X - Featuring
Shade by Peter Milligan and Mike Allred
But pick of the
bunch for me has to be Superman: True Brit, by John Cleese and an as yet
un-named artist. Now that will be worth getting.

Darkie's
Mob returns to the Megazine
In a welcome move,
the Megazine will be reprinting John Wagner and Mike Western's Darkie's Mob
from January. Following the resurgence of interest in war comics (even DC has
a line of them written by Garth Ennis), this should be the tip of the iceberg,
with Pat Mills classic Charley's War being the next most obvious candidate.
Hopefully the Megazine
will continue to restrict reprints to more obscure earlier strips, and I might
just be convinced enough to start buying it again...
