Have we gone back in time?
It was a very good Dredd this month, but I have to disagree with you about Amperduke.

Thought it was an excellent issue, with even Tank Girl being well above par. The "Tales" and "Dredd" stories were the clear winners, though, and I thought Holden's artwork on the former was some of his best to date.
Not so sure of the "Licensed comics" side of things, as it mentions Marvel's Star Wars, but doesn't seem to touch on Dark Horse's. I couldn't see a mention of Buffy Season 8 either, which is a huge recent hit. But then the whole licensed comic subject is so huge, I guess a lot had to be left on the sidelines. It's perhaps something that could have benfited from a 2-part approach.
Also - I didn't think that Kirby's 2001 was ever completed - am I wrong? Or was it his version of the Prisoner that I'm thinking of?
One thing I have to say - very pleased to see them reprinting War Machine next month. Was just about to come onto the boards and suggest that but have been pre-empted...

I agree, a top notch Meg with even Tank Girl feeling in place. Dayglo gets better and better, as does Holden; good to see him trying a new style for a different story.
I recently read Kirby's 2001 series - but it didn't include the movie adaptation which I guess must have been a one-off special released earlier, which I assume contained the story of the whole film.
The 10 issues of the subsequent series is weird stuff that doesn't exactly lead anywhere (it ends with the creation of Mr Machine, now known as Aaron Stack aka Machine Man from Nextwave and other stuff), but I don't think you could call it unfinished.
It's also pretty badly written - I ended up skipping all the captions and just following the story through the art. Kirby never seemed to learn that vitally important comics thing about not writing what you've drawn.

Actually, thinking of the licensed comic thing... Have there ever been any instances where a comic was adapted into a movie where the resulting adaptation of the movie back into a comic proved to be any good? It must be a bizarre job to take on - and I've bought at least a couple of Batman ones in the past - but can anyone remember anything like this that was any good?

Maybe Tharg didn’t want three B&W strips in one issue.
Tharg commisioned B&W art. As a fan of Gabrial Ba's run on 'Casanova' and someone who's very fond of the period in UK comics where b&w and spot colour where the norm (see lots of issues of Warlord) I thought it'd be fun to have a green tint on the art (at no extra charge to the mighty Tharg!).
Sorry it wasn't your bag, man. But, happy to see, on the official board, that lots of people liked it

Fair enough, in that case I withdraw my "it seemed a bit pointless to me."

late to the party but heartily add my 'i likes it' to the green spot colouring (and that extra dash of red).
Also great art - the first few pages, especially some of the faces, I found very D'isreali (in a good way) while by the time the duo of goons got it it was back to the more established PJ-McCrea look. Seriously good art all over and I think shows a great skill for the contrast needed in B&W art that raises it above his colour work. Really Really nice.
Shame Bato Loco is off so quick - silly, stupid, slightly crass like a robo-stoogie but really good. Not a fan of 'oversize' eyes by lordy that was some excellent art - the detail in every frame etc. Very impressed.
