Full Version: Major changes starting to hit the site

Ok - I've been working on this for a while, and am finally able to unleash a new part of the site.

I've been working at implemetning a content management system on the site over the past few weeks and the first stage of this - the reviews section - is ready (although it still needs some twweaks in places). This means all the reviews are properly classified and hopefully easier to find.

The biggest change is in the way the reviews will be loaded going forward, as they'll be dine in a more "blogging" format. While they'll essentially look the same, they'll be loaded using the admin tool which is far easier to use and doen't require the writer to understand HTML. So, going forward, I'll be able to give people logins so that they can create their own site content, and all I'll have to do is publish (and maybe add the odd picture).

If anyone's up for this and fancies doing a review to test this out, let me know. I'll be opening this up to features, fiction and articles over the coming weeks - so hopefully we'll see more stuff onthe site, and less of a bottleneck in me. Of course all this depends if people are up for contributing...

Anyway, here's the section - Happy to get feedback on it too!

Just had a quick look around and it looks quite simple and easy to follow. As with most things the beauty is in it's simplicity.

Well done Gavin celb.gif

Lovely stuff. Shouldn't it link from the front page, though?

It should do already - any link in particular?

It's fixed now... probably my browser was storing an old version of the front page or something (It didn;t change for a couple of weeks).

Sorry bout that.

OK - as you all might have seen elsewhere, the features and fiction part of the site have now been updated too. A few more changes to come, but I'm going to let this settle down for a bit. Please let me know if you experience any problems, as there might still be a few issues to iron out. And, of course, let me know if you think anything could be changed for the better.

With regards to interviews, reviews and articles, I'm really keen to egt more people involved int eh site, if anyone's interested. I know James had a decent idea for an ongoign feature which we'll try out soon - but if anyone fancies putting any articles up on the new look site, so pelase let me know and I'll sort you out a login and info on how to use it. Thanks.

First to say that I've had no difficulties using the admin tools to upload reviews - and I hope I haven;t caused you too much pain ironing out mistakes.

Second to say that although the Review section now looks much better and more professional, I miss being able to see a front page type thing where I can see at a glance all the trades / EEs / books etc that have already been reviewed. Obviously I can use the search function to find a particular volume (or not find it if there is no reivew for it yet), or click through the pages, but I think this old aspect of the site is missing.

Anyway, minor quibble - the current version of the site looks fantastic

True - it's the one thing that annoys me too. I was hoping to use the shop to achieve that, but can't get links to work in the Amazon shop thing. However, you could try this...

It's gone all funny. You can read whole posts on the front page and they're far from the most recent ones.

Ah. Bollocks. I'll fix that....

I've just found another problem (or maybe it's an old one?)

When you click on the 'Reviews' section, the most recent reviews are fine, but the ones at the bottom all seem to lead to broken links. But the same reviews are still accessible if you use the search function. What gives?
