Has everyone forgotten Hershey!

I think it would be interesting to see Dredd as CJ, but I don't think it would make a very interesting strip.

There are a few things here that may make the story twist further:

The mutant issue is not resolved;
There is no clear Chief Judge;
Sinfield is still around;
The end of Origins and what Fargo said still needs to be addressed.

I wonder if the end of the Judge system will ever come . . .

I'm with you on teh post-reboot stuff being great. Whittling down to 5 is hard!
For me its:

1. Rage (but not the Ragnarok Job, which has a great opening but the Viking story itself is a bit silly)
2. The Kreeler Conspiracy. It's completely out of continuity, but for all that it really distills the essence of Johnny Alpha, and I love the long ones.
3. The Gronk Affair. Love me the Weerd Brothers, I do
4. Incident on Mayger Minor - another one that sums up the feel of the strip really well I think
5. The Tax Dodge. It's all about the Gnobs, one of many genius alien race concepts Wagner has thrown up in the series.

Man, I can't believe Portrait of a Mutant didn't make it into the 5! Maybe I've read it too many times.

I can't believe the Rammy didn't make it in!

I am! Even though I no longer read the prog I keep up with it on here!

Top 5 . . only 5!

1. Ragnarok Job/Rage (I cheated a bit here - see what I did)
2. The Rammy
3. The Killing
4. Big Bust of 49
5. The Schiklegruber Grab

Hmmmm....

Judge Death (despite overuse)
Chief Judge Cal (probably my fave)
PJ Maybe (of course!)
Mean Machine (although let's leave him where he is - the last scene was excellent)
Aaaand... I quite liked the original Nosferatu

Sinfield has real potential too - depending where Tour of Duty takes us next...

I like listing! :-)

Hmmmm
Judge Death (Naturally) and the 4 dark judges.
Fink Angel
Judge Child/Mutant
Jonny Kiss
Judge Dredd (the mutie one from the Kev O'neil story)

Having thought about it there are few standout villains in Dredd, they always seem defined by the story! This is a weird way of doing stories but I really like it

Yes, that's it. The masses have long been crying out for reprints to Millar's Robohunter, only to be thwarted by legal wrangling.

I hear they will be reprinting the miller robohunter on rolls of tissue paper so that I will be of more use to the reader

In the latest of our script to page features - Judge Dredd Out Law - by Rob Williams: http://www.2000adreview.co.uk/site/index.p...dd-Out-Law.html

What do you think of these - are they of interest - should I do more of them?

Yeah damm straight - a really interesting exercise and I'll definately be reading it through. Am sure those out there who want to get into writing will also find in exceedingly helpful.. Nice coup for the site Gav.

Definitely - always want to see behind the scenes.

Do writers now write dialogue in lower case? i thought it was all done in caps?!

To hear that the film now has a budget seems like a good sign to me. But between 3D (which must surely abosrb a large amount of the money) and a director I've barely heard of, I'm pinning my hopes for this film on the script. On the plus side, it might mean they can't afford a big star ion the lead role, so more chance of the helmet staying on!

They might not be able to afford any star! So all we have is Dredd's voice from off camera and the other characters' 3D recaction to his words!

Lots of lovely stuff there CF! Anda fun blog, too. Your enthusiasm is as always a delight to share in.

ps I too own the Judge Dredd towel and the pair of candles which both seem to have come from nowhere. I tried to burn one of the Dredd candles (it was broken in half anyway) once but it didn't work very well.

You have to use an incendiary shot to light it

QUOTE(Emperor @ Apr 9 2010, 11:10 PM) *
He comes up quite a bit in TPO and the portrayal isn't exactly flattering all the time - there was a feeling some of the scripts felt padded and they won't on longer than they should have done, also they had to be rewritten heavily and sometimes didn't make much sense (like Harry reaching inside his space suit whilst in space). You get the feeling he was the reliable and consistent writer who always managed to deliver a solid tale but it feels like he never quite properly fitted in and with the newer, brasher writers coming up they shuffled him aide. It is a pity he didn't continue on somewhere that suited his skills - perhaps on a war comic or even some graphic novel series somewhere (although perhaps it was a little too early for that kind of thing).

Yes, I hear that sort of thing lots. But I'm not so sure I believe it. Firstly if his scripts were so dreadful then why would editors have put up with it for so long? I can't believe (as busy as editors are) that they could be bothered to get a writer's scripts rewritten each week - no matter how good they are.

I get the feeling all the mud slinging about GFD is just to cover up the fact that someone at the top didnt like him and forced him out. It is like Pat Mills said about Belardinelli in his great tribute piece - 'when the purists became the majority of 2000AD readers, his career on the comic sadly came to an end.'

Not read this series, is it any good?

Durham Red: Island Of The Damned by Alan Grant and Carlos Ezquerra, Paperback - 11 Nov 2010, £10.99

I read this in the prog and classic 2000ad, it was ok. NOt a great story. Nice art.

Meltdown Man by Alan Hebden and Massimo Belardinelli, Paperback - 11 Nov 2010, £11.99

A stone cold classic

Fiends of the Eastern Front by Gerry Finley-Day, David Bishop, Carlos Ezquerra, and Colin MacNeil, Paperback - 18 Oct 2010, £9.99

I have the original series in hardback - is the Bishop series any good?

I've just come back from the latest incarnation of Orbital Comics, which I guess must have moved fairly recently - I remember it being a slightly dingy basement that I could never seem to find. It's now shiny and new and right by Leicester Square tube station.

Anyway, it's ace - nicely laid out, great mix of new comics, back issues and collections, loads of small press! Best of all, and perhaps of most interest to people here, it's got a couple of galleries, one of which is currently showcasing - and selling - original art by Arthur Ranson. There isn't a huge selection of his stuff on display, but it's lovely to see, and presumably other artists will get a slot here in future.

If you can get to central London, it's well worth a look.

That's funny I was in there this week and I thought the same thing! The art they are showing is from a cornish fairy artist now. Not as 2000ad centric but still good stuff.

I have never been able to understand what happened with Gerry Finley-Day. At the time I thought he must have died and they put anouther writer on Rogue.

Does anyone know what happened and why he stopped writing comics. He was a brilliant writer. Can't 2000ad tempt him back?

Is it just my browser or is the forum now really confusing and difficult to negotiate?

Can we go back to the old view where you did not have to click on each reply?

What's more, those annual stories originally printed in colour are reproduced in colour. Smashing!

'Compulsory Purchase' - the one where Dredd requistions a man's organs, is a particular standout.

There's also a panel where a man with a chicken for a head yells out "Nobody calls me chickenhead!"

Good times.

That one is the fear that made Milwaukee famous.

The vampire effect is aso pretty stunnning. I am amaze how well and how individually McMahon moved into colour. His work looks even more amazing painted than it does in bw

Looking at the titles I recognise them from Annuals.

There have been some cracking all colour Dredd stories appearing in the annuals over the years (one particular by McMahon from around 1981) sticks in the memory - does anyone know if this is an all colour re-print volume?

its part colour part BW.

I do have to say I am a little bit disappointed with the colour printing in my copy of the Restricted files vol 1. The McMahon art looks a bit saturated and you cant see his lines as well as in earlier prints. I have the streets of Mega City 1 colour titan book from back in the early 80s with these stories in and The printing was a lot more crisp. The artwork is so amazing!

Other than that its really good book. I would recommend it.
