five panels
1. Establishing panel, interior, night. A large, rambling run-down factory. The
only light comes in from the outside, through holes in the walls and ceilings.
This is an action shot;
low-angle, looking up at JUDGE DREDD as he dives – right towards us –
for cover from many people in the shadows above and behind him. Bullets strike
the ground around Dredd. There’s a nasty wound on his upper left arm.
In the background, we can
just about see the fallen bodies of two or three other perps.
No dialogue.
FX: BLAM!
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
2. Medium-close on Dredd; he’s taken cover, crouched down behind a low wall.
He’s loading a clip into his lawgiver. More bullets strike the top of the
wall above Dredd’s head.
DREDD: ASSAULT
ON A MEGA-CITY JUDGE! YOU CREEPS JUST ADDED TWENTY YEARS TO YOUR SENTENCES!
FX: BLAM!
BLAM! BLAM!
3. Close on some of the perps, who are mostly in shadow / silhouette. We can see
just about enough of them to know that they’re well-built men, all fairly
heavily armed. The closest – the perps’ leader – is bare-armed;
There’s a lot of hair on his muscular arms. This is TYLER.
TYLER: YOU
HAVEN’T GOT A HOPE, JUDGE! YOU’RE OUT-NUMBERED SEVENTEEN TO ONE!
4. On Dredd, as he runs towards a metal staircase set against a wall.
TYLER (off):
YOU SHOULD BE THANKING US FOR WHAT WE’VE DONE!
5. Dredd races up the staircase. Bullets hit the wall around him.
DREDD: YOU
TOOK THE LAW INTO YOUR OWN HANDS, TYLER!
FX: P-TOW! P-TOW! P-TOW!
Page 2 – seven panels
1. Top of stairway. Over-the-shoulder
shot as Dredd sees three of the perps ahead of him. Dredd has his lawgiver aimed.
DREDD: DROP
‘EM!
2. Reverse angle. The perps are in the foreground. We still can’t clearly
see them. They’re dropping their weapons. Dredd has his communicator out,
in his left hand.
DREDD: CONTROL?
DREDD. REQUESTING BACK-UP --
3. Small panel. Close on Dredd’s communicator as it’s shot out of
his hand.
FX: B-DAM!
DREDD: DROKK!
4. Dredd, running for cover towards a concrete pillar, firing as he does so. Bullets
trace the air around him,
TYLER (off):
WATCH YOUR FIRE! SHOOT TO WOUND ONLY!
FX: BLAM!
BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
5. Close on Dredd, with his back to the pillar. Behind him we can see that Tyler
and the other perps are approaching. One of them, to Tyler’s left, carries
very large, powerful-looking rifle.
TYLER: STAND
DOWN, DREDD! THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING!
6. Dredd ducks and spins, firing three times in succession.
FX: BLAM!
BLAM! BLAM!
7. Inset: Three perps are hit square in the head.
No dialogue.

five panels
1. Medium close on Tyler and some of the other perps, who have taken cover behind
some old rusting machinery. Though they’re still partly in shadow, we can
see that Tyler has a close-cropped white beard. To his left is the man with the
large gun.
TYLER: SCREW
IT! HENNESSY? THE RAIL-GUN!
2. Angle on Hennessy as he fires the huge gun.
FX: BOOM!
BOOM!
3. On Dredd, with his back to the pillar. The two bullets pass through the concrete
pillar and straight through Dredd’s left shoulder-pad and left thigh. Dredd’s
lawgiver flies out of his right hand.
DREDD: ARRGH!
4. Very large panel. Close on Dredd, sitting on the ground, his back to the pillar.
Dredd’s left hand
is pressed against the wound in his left thigh – we can see the blood seeping
out between his fingers. There’s a bullet-hole in his left shoulder-pad
(with blood trickling down from under it), and also the initial wound in his upper
left-arm: he has his right hand pressed against this one.
On either side of Dredd,
in the foreground, we can see the silhouettes of Tyler and Hennessy, facing him.
TYLER: WE
DIDN’T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN, DREDD.
HENNESSY: WE
LOOKED YOU UP – YOU’RE A GOOD MAN. BUT YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE GOT
IN OUR WAY.
5. Smaller panel. Dredd’s POV. We can see that there are at least a dozen
men – all armed – facing him.
Not one of the men is under
sixty years old, but they’re all very strong and fit-looking.
TYLER: PICK
HIM UP. WE’LL DUMP HIM ON THE STREET WHERE HE’LL BE FOUND.
Page 4 – six panels
1. Two of the men Dredd
by the arms.
TYLER (off):
SEE IF YOU CAN STOP THE BLEEDING, HENNESSEY --
2. Dredd lashes out his at one of the men, catching him in the jaw with his right
fist.
PERP: URGH!
TYLER: DAMN
IT! SUBDUE HIM!
3. Dredd is being held down by three men, and another four have their weapons
pointed right at him. Tyler has crouched down in front of Dredd. We can see from
his expression that he’s not a cruel man, but he looked determined.
TYLER: WISE
UP, DREDD! WE’RE TRYING TO SAVE YOUR LIFE!
DREDD: I
DON’T... COOPERATE WITH... VIGILANTES.
4. Close on TYLER.
TYLER: SOCIETY
BREEDS VIGILANTES WHEN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM FAILS. IT’S BEEN FORTY YEARS SINCE
THE JUDGES TOOK OVER, AND CRIME HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE.
5. Long shot. Dredd is being carried – face down – through the factory,
one man to each limb. The others aren’t taking any chances: they still have
their weapons trained on him. Tyler walks alongside Dredd.
TYLER: YOU
KNOW WHAT’S GOOD FOR YOU, DREDD, YOU’LL BACK OFF AND LET US BE, GOT
THAT?
6. Inset: Close on Dredd, face down, gritting his teeth.
DREDD: IT’LL
NEVER HAPPEN, TYLER!
Page 5 – seven panels
1. Exterior, continuous.
We’re somewhere on the city bottom, in front of the factory. Dredd is lying
face-up on the ground. There’s a lot of blood pooling around him.
Most of the perps are in
the background, but Tyler is standing next to Dredd.
TYLER: YOU
KILLED OVER HALF OF MY MEN TONIGHT, DREDD –
TYLER (cont):
-- BUT THERE’S MORE OF US. A LOT MORE THAN YOU KNOW.
2. Close on Dredd’s face. He’s in pain (obviously!), but still has
that determined look.
DREDD: YOU...
WANT MY ADVICE, TYLER...? START RUNNING.
3. Two-shot of Tyler looking down at Dredd. TYLER looks amused.
TYLER: YOU
TALK TOUGH, DREDD, BUT YOU JUST GOT YOUR BUTT HANDED TO YOU BY A BUNCH OF GUYS
THREE TIMES YOUR AGE.
TYLER (cont):
YOU CAN TELL YOUR FELLOW JUDGES THAT THEIR DAYS ARE OVER.
4. Tyler reaches into his shirt pocket.
TYLER: THE
PEOPLE OF MEGA-CITY ONE NEED PROTECTION. THAT’S OUR JOB. A JOB WE WERE DOING
LONG BEFORE YOU JUDGES TOOK IT AWAY FROM US.
5. Tyler tosses something onto the ground, next to Dredd.
No dialogue.
6. High angle, looking down on Dredd as he bleeds to death. In the background,
Tyler and his men walk away.
No dialogue.
7. Inset: Close on the object that Tyler threw down. It’s an old, battered
police badge, with a very clear imprint: NYPD
CAPTION: TO
BE CONTINUED.
