Judge Dredd: Doppelganger

By Eric Moore

Page 1

Panel 1 – This takes up three-quarters of the page. Nice sprawling shot of Mega City One. In the foreground is a squat building with a large number two on its side.

Title: Doppelganger
Caption: Chrono Lab Two. Sector 247.

Panel 2 – Takes up the remainder of the page. Chrono Lab interior. A Judge is in the foreground with his back to us, addressing about ten Judges.

Judge: “Right, we think there’s only the one perp, with roughly five hostages”.

Page 2

Panel 1 – Close up on the head Judge. We can see his name is Poe. Behind him is an open doorway with lots of hi-tech machinery visible in the room.

Poe: “The trouble is we can’t just go storming in there. There’s too much Chrono-tech in there to risk it”

Panel 2 – View from the back of the room. The rear of a Judge's helmet takes up the foreground. In the background are the backs of the assembled Judges and, beyond them, Poe and the open doorway.

Poe: “We’ve no choice but to wait it out till help arrives”

Panel 3 – Tall thin panel of a full-length hero shot of Dredd. This is the beat-up, gnarley, getting on a bit but still in great shape version as done by Jock etc. All Judges have the John Hicklenton style uniforms - eagles with the real long beak; huge left shoulder pad etc. Dredd has his Lawgiver drawn.

Dredd: “The help's here”

Panel 4 – Poe has stepped into Dredd’s way.

Poe: “No way Dredd. I’m not having you blundering in there. We have to pacify the Perp. We wait for a negotiator.”

Panel 5 – Dredd’s pushing Poe out of the way

Dredd: “Wait any more and we have another dead hostage. I’ve got something the creep can negotiate with”

Page 3

Panel 1 – Inside the room. The Perp has a hostage on his knees and has a gun to his temple. He is looking towards the doorway.

Perp: “I hear you out there! When do I get to leave here?”

Panel 2 – Dredd at the doorway, gun ready.

Dredd: “Right now. Armour piercing”

Panel 3 – Dredd’s aimed at a piece of machinery he can clearly see in the room. Sound effect.

Panel 4 – The shot has hit the machinery causing it to burst into flame. The Perps head has whirled round to watch it.

Panel 5 – Dredd in the doorway firing.

Panel 6 – Shot hits the Perp in the head, making it explode. The shot continues on into the room.

Page 4

Panel 1 – Dredd walking into the room, the other Judges behind him.

Dredd: “This room is pacified”

Panel 2 – An enraged Poe is nose to nose with Dredd

Poe: You idiot Dredd! Do you have any idea the trouble you might have caused?

Panel 3 – Shot of Dredd. Behind him we can see the piece of machinery that his shell hit. It’s arcing slightly.

Dredd: “Situations over Poe, the hostages are safe. That’s all that matters.”

Panel 4 – The machinery – its really starting to arc.

Panel 5 – Dredd and Poe. Behind Dredd there’s some sort of energy discharge.

Poe: “Dredd! Watch it!”

Panel 6- Same shot of Dredd but everything else has gone apart from the energy-vortex thing.

Panel 7 – Dredd has appeared outside. The buildings are noticeably not as big as before.

Dredd: “Drokk! Where’s the lab?”

Panel 8 – Dredd looking around.

Dredd: “This isn’t even sector 247. Control – Dredd, suspect I’ve been teleported. Can you get a fix on me?”

Panel 9 – Back of Dredd. A gun is pointing at him.

Voice: “Don’t move! Hands up where I can see ‘em”

Page 5

One large panel takes up the whole page. Full-length shot of Dredd in the foreground. Behind him, with gun still raised is another Dredd. This looks exactly like he did in Prog 2 – the rounded helmet, tiny eagle and pads, the thick lip thing.

Prog 2 Dredd: “If you’re going to impersonate a Judge you could at least try and make it look right. You’re under arrest”
